This little piece of heaven is very close by to lots of fantastic places, that’s why we bought another plot of land here. The coast is 20 minutes drive down the road, with the closest beach towns being Vinaros, the region’s capital or Les Cases d’Alcanar, which is 20-25 minutes, Benicarlo 25 minutes, Peñiscola, 30 minutes and Sant Carles de la Rapita 30 minutes. Peñiscola has been used many times as a film location, including for Game of Thrones and El Cid.

Browse the photos on this page to get a feel for what is close to Vida Sana. At the end of the page, we have also added in some of the cities that are accessible, either by train or car. The train service is pretty good, and you can catch trains from either Ulldecona or Vinaros. Vinaros has more trains that stop there.

Close by there are two Natural Parks; the Delta de l’Ebre and Els Ports.

Delta de l'Ebre

Els Ports

Three of the officially most beautiful towns in Spain: Peñiscola, Morella, Vilafames are within 30 minutes to an hour’s drive away.

Around 40 minutes drive, you can visit Horta de Sant Joan, where Picasso discovered nature, aged 16 years old. He later said, “Everything I know, I learned in Horta.”

San Rafael del Río, the local village, is a 2 minute drive from the land. The article about the village, which you can see here, has some photos taken during one of the local fiestas. The village has a population of around 500 people, so it is normally peaceful. There are 4 bars, one of which serves food, and a restaurant just over the bridge, that does a three course lunch with a bit of wine for €11.50 There are a couple of small shops, a hairdressers and a church.

Traiguera is a picturesque small town with many stone constructions, and some Roman Fiestas to see. It also has its well known Font de la Salud (Fountain of Health), a short drive from the town, which is beautiful, and has been a stop off place for pilgrims for many centuries. Traiguera is 10 minutes drive from Vida Sana. You can learn more about Traiguera in this article.

Another small town that is close to Vida Sana, is La Senia, which is around 10 minutes drive. There you can go to the weekly market in the Church Square on a Saturday morning. It’s a good place to stock up on fruit and vegetables, olives and other food items. Additionally there are some clothes and shoes stalls as you wander around. Discover more about La Senia.

About 15 minutes drive, will bring you to the small town and municipality of Ulldecona, where you can visit the thousand year old olive trees and the amazing caves, in a striking location. The town itself is relatively ordinary, although it has a nice area around the church, with a couple of attractive examples of Modernist architecture. The town’s tourist office is a lovely converted olive mill. Ulldecona has an indoor market that opens the same hours as the shops, and a weekly market outdoors on Friday mornings. One of our favourite cities, which is absolutely full of great culture, architecture and food, is only one hour away by train or car. This is Tarragona, which actually has a Roman amphitheatre overlooking the sea. Even though it is only one hour south of Barcelona, it has not been discovered by so many English speaking tourists. This, of course, is a good thing also, as Barcelona has been struggling for a number of years now with a very unhealthy amount of tourism, both for the environment and the inhabitants. We have a comprehensive article on Tarragona, where you can see more and also one of the fiestas there.

Another lovely city, very close to Tarragona, is Reus. Reus is the birth town of the amazing Anton Gaudí, and the Gaudí Centre can be visited in the city. What we love about this city is the beautiful architecture, and lovely shops, restaurants and bars. On the outskirts of Reus, there’s also a Ryanair Airport, so currently many flights go there, making it a very handy airport for visitors. Here you can read more about Reus.

Of course I previously mentioned how much tourism Barcelona has, but it is still accessible by train or car, so for that reason, I can’t really leave it out. Here’s our article about Barcelona.

Last but not least, is Valencia, which is a little under two hour’s drive or train, heading south. Another great city, with so much to see and do, not to mention its famous City of Arts & Sciences. The city has plenty of great architecture, and it has been wonderfully laid out, with many beautiful green areas. Discover Valencia.
